HTML5 (non-Flash) Charts

If you're like the New Relic dev team, you've got an iPad and you want to monitor your applications while sitting on the porch enjoying a lazy summer afternoon. You were disappointed before our Flash-based charting didn't work on your iPad... Now your problems are solved because we have HTML5 (a.k.a. Javascript) charting as an option: enable it through your preferences and monitor happily from your iPad (or any HTML5 compatible browser).

Tweet This Chart

Sharing application performance data with colleagues, partners, and customers just got a lot easier. The Notes capability in RPM has always been a useful collaboration tool because it lets users work as a team to solve issues. We’ve just made collaboration even easier by adding the option to share Notes and Charts publicly and to notify people via Twitter.

The Thread Profiler measures wall clock time, CPU time, and method call counts in your application's threads as they run:

Benefits:

  • Find performance bottlenecks at the code level
  • Uncover flaws in the application stack (VM, app server, middleware, and more)
  • Reduce CPU utilization

Web Transactions Return to Lite

Due to popular demand, we've moved the Web Transaction Analysis feature from Bronze to Lite. This should dee-lite Lite customers who can now look at a summary of transactions types and with the option to sort by throughput, response time, Apdex score and more, quickly determine which are the worst performers, Lite subscribers also get access to the Web Transaction performance breakdown, which shows exactly where each transaction component is spending time. Now you have even more troubleshooting data to help determine where to focus remediation efforts.

If you're an RPM Silver or Gold subscriber, you needn't feel left out. We've got some new Web Transaction monitoring functionality for you as well. RPM now offers Silver and Gold subscribers a Table View of all Web Transactions in addition to the usual roll-up view of the worst offenders. The table view shows every transaction cross referenced with Apdex score, throughput, response time, standard deviation and more. You can sort web transactions by any of these columns to find the those that you want to optimize.

Monitor Background Jobs

Many of you have high-volume transaction web applications that process a significant number of background jobs at any given time. Just for you we’ve added visibility into background tasks and other activities occurring outside of normal controller actions so you can better understand their impact on application performance.

Campfire Integration Fix

RPM offers integration with 37signals' Campfire product, so you can be notified of application deployments and incidents automatically in a Campfire chatroom. When 37signals switched over to a new authentication system for their products on December 14 (http://37signals.com/accounts), our Campfire integration broke.

As of 4pm today, 1) we have it working again and 2) we no longer have to store your Campfire password. Instead, we authenticate to Campfire using a token that you generate from your Campfire account.

To enable Campfire notifications with RPM, we need your new token:

  1. If you haven't already, create your 37signals ID. More details here: http://37signals.com/accounts

  2. Log in to your Campfire account with a web browser. Click the "My info" link and copy the "API authentication token", a long alphanumeric string.

  3. Log in to RPM and go to your Account Settings. Click the Integrations tab, then the Campfire tab on the left. Enter the authentication token in the form field and click Connect. If the token matches, you'll see a list of chat rooms appear. Make a selection and click Save. You're good to go!

We've revised the Alerts section, as well as how alerts appear in the event list. We hope that you find the presentation more intuitive and easier to use.

Clearer Indication of Available Features

We've heard a lot of feedback from customers that it can be confusing what features and pages are available at your product level (Lite, Bronze, Silver or Gold). So we've made it more obvious which features are not available. Of course you can still click through to get an explanation of the feature.
