memory usage contradiction

As I mentioned to Justin-George in IRC, I'm seeing some oddities in the memory graphs....also we can't come up with any explanation for the memory jump in the first place so could this be a problem with the collectors??

   I think this screenshot may be a bit clearer than my previous...at least easier to follow.
